The Indirect Tax accountant is responsible for transaction tax compliance, GL reconciliations, and audit management. He/she will prepare and file timely and accurate governmental returns for sales, property, business license, and other transactional tax activities while ensuring that adequate records are maintained to support subsequent audits by the relevant authorities. The position will also respond to tax inquiries from the business and provide advice.
Return Preparation and Filing – Prepare and file accurate and timely returns for sales/use tax, business property tax, excise tax, unclaimed property, and other transactional taxes as required by law (monthly, quarterly, and annually). Ensure adequate records are maintained to support the subsequent audits by the relevant authorities in accordance with archiving policies.
GL Reconciliation – Reconcile, balance, and analyze GL accounts for indirect tax accounts and any other accounts assigned.
Audits – Manage all audits from relevant authorities. This position handles the audits end to end.
Business Support - Provide tax advice to the business, and implement plans to strategically reduce the company’s sales and use tax burden utilizing personal knowledge and 3rd party contractors as necessary.
Unclaimed Property – File unclaimed property returns with appropriate agencies. Additionally work with accounts payable department to ensure compliance with regulations.
Education
· Bachelors degree in accounting or related field required.
Experience and Skills
· 3+ years accounting / tax experience. Transaction tax experience in a like industry preferred
· Ability to analyze GL accounts and develop account reconciliations.
· Highly computer literate – Excel, SAP and Vertex.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate tax concepts to colleagues outside of the tax department.
· Ability to multitask and schedule workload to meet deadlines.
· Must be able to identify and implement process improvements.
· Ability to research issues as they arise and make educated decisions.
